Her Excellency Dr. Aisha Bin Bishr, director general, Smart Dubai Office, successfully delivered a keynote speech at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. In her talk, Dr. Bishr spoke about the basic techniques and innovations that can be utilized in the future of smart cities. Speaking at the Ministerial program held on the sidelines of the congress, she urged that no time should be wasted in the use of modern technology, especially for efforts directed towards the transformation process of becoming a smart city.

STC signs Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with Ericsson to collaborate on the development of 5G network technologies and services. Together with other technology leaders, Ericsson will outline the road towards 5G, through joint market-leading trials of advanced technologies, incorporating network tests on "Very High Speed", "Ultra Low Latency" and "highly reliable extreme capacity broadband network". The aim of this initiative is also to enable the full digitalization transformation, supporting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s 2030 vision. STC has already successfully carried out unique 5G experiments and Lab tests, moving towards the successful deployment of the much anticipated 5G mobile services. These tests have set a new record in the speed of mobile data services, which in no doubt will lead to a new revolution in mobile network applications and services, through a new exciting 5G Era.

Zain Saudi Arabia and Nokia signed an Memorandum of Understanding to work together on developing 5G and define a clear path toward building the next-generation ultra broadband networks in Saudi Arabia. Both companies will combine their expertise to develop use cases, requirements and deployment scenarios for 5G technologies. The MoU was signed by Zain Saudi Arabia CEO Mr. Peter Kaliaropoulos and Ashish Chowdhary, Nokia’s chief customer operations officer, at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona.

Etisalat Group and Qualcomm Technologies Inc. have signed a strategic agreement to work together to advance the development of next generation network technologies. The collaboration will focus on accelerating 5G standardization to bring forward the possibility of commercially available 5G networks as early as 2019.

On the sidelines of the world's top telecommunications conference and exhibition, Mobile World Congress 2017, Zain Saudi Arabia and Huawei Tech Investment Saudi Arabia, have signed two Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) that will see them collaborate on a number of technologies and services in a bid to further develop the operator's ICT offering and ultimately contribute to the Kingdom's digital transformation goals.

In a first for Lebanon's telecommunications sector, Alfa has embarked on another digital transformation process in partnership with Oracle whereby the operator has deployed the Exadata solutions within its systems. As part of this deployment, Alfa will be able to improve its customer experience, performance and scalability, lower operating expenses and improve sustainability by reducing the amount of energy and space required.
