The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC), represented by the Saudi Network Information Center (SaudiNIC), recently hosted a workshop on the Domain Name System Security Extension (DNSSEC). The workshop was held at CITC's headquarters on 9 May 2017 in Riyadh in coordination with the Middle East Network Operators Group (MENOG) and RIPE NCC. The event was aimed at raising awareness and promoting the adoption of DNSSEC within national networks in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This complements efforts to further develop the Saudi Internet Domain Name System, using DNSSEC technology.

Under the patronage and in the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Telecommunications Jamal Al Jarrah, Alfa, managed by Orascom TMT, launched Ikebana Spirit exhibition, a new initiative under its Alfa 4-Life CSR program for the benefit of the students  of the Father Andeweg Institute for the Deaf. The exhibition was inaugurated in Exotica, Jal El Dib, featuring Japanese-style flower arrangements made by the association's students. The event was attended by Alfa's Chairman and CEO Marwan Hayek, Exotica General Manager Joe Younes, Ministry officials, Alfa administrative staff and team, and the media.

As part of du's ongoing commitment towards corporate volunteering, and in line with the Year of Giving directive, 46 du employees participated in Give and Gain Day activities in May 2017 for a total of 167.5 hours. This annual volunteering event, under the Dubai Chamber Centre for Responsible Business' Engage Dubai program, saw du employees participate in a number of activities in Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah to further the company's sustainability goals.

Batelco ensures its customer service platforms are protected against cyber-attacks thanks to its strong line of cyber defences, in collaboration with its world-leading partners. The much publicized recent Ransomware cyber-attacks that affected many of the world's major organisations have not impacted Batelco's services to its customers in spite of a number of attempts by Ransomware or similar malicious code such as WannaCry.

Qatari telecom giant Ooredoo presented its new mobile network solution at Khalifa Stadium to 45,000 attendees to mark the final match of the Emir Cup football tournament. The operator achieved up to 40% higher speeds than current technologies with the latest 4G advanced centralized RAN. The same technology will reportedly be used for the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Saudi Arabian telecoms giant Saudi Telecom Company (STC) announced the establishment of STV, a technology venture capital fund that aims to achieve its strategic growth aspirations and to help realize Vision 2030's technological ambitions by investing in new digital areas and by growing the digital innovation ecosystem in the region.
