UAE telecoms operator Etisalat has launched a ‘transit pack’ of 1GB and 10 flexi minutes for a 48hour duration worth 50 Dhs for transit passengers at UAE airports.

Transit passengers can now purchase the package from Etisalat’s authorized partners at UAE airports and borders after providing the required mobile registration information.

The launch follows the country’s decision to grant free transit visas for 48 hours to passengers transiting in the UAE’s airports.

Etisalat’s Chief Consumer Officer, Khaled Elkhouly, stated: “We are delighted to offer transit passengers an affordable and tailored package that caters to their needs for their 48 hour stay. This special package is part of our ongoing efforts to provide top-notch benefits to all our customer segments.”

The UAE cabinet announced a new visa policy last year which permits all transit passengers to be exempt from entry fees for a 46 hour transit visit.

This visa can be bought at passport control in UAE airports and extended for up to 96 hours for a fee of 50 Dhs ($14).

Tourism is a key industry in the UAE’s diversification plans and has been growing in recent years as an important area for government authorities in all the seven emirates.

The government recently granted Russian and Chinese passport holders visas upon arrival in an attempt to encourage and boost tourism.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports have become transit hubs for international passengers travelling to many different parts of the world.

Taking advantage of this traffic has become a key priority for the country’s many sectors as cities like Dubai aim to attract more tourists in the coming years.
