Dutch telecom operator T-Mobile Netherland has announced that its 5G network has achieved 90% coverage.

The telco has stated that this was achieved “in record time” through their use of frequencies which were obtained in the multi-band auction in July 2020. In an official statement, the company stated that the coverage span is in line with a promise they made in January 2019 to cover the entire country with 5G before the end of 2020.

“Before the auction, we made all the necessary preparations to be able to start quickly. Immediately after that we did everything we could to make sure we fulfilled on our promise. I am enormously proud that we have succeeded. It’s great to see how many consumers are already using 5G and are curious about the new possibilities,” said Soren Abildgaard, CEO T-Mobile Netherlands.

The telco claims that over 50% of all mobile data traffic within the country was actually carried out on their network.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, T-Mobile launched 5G commercially on 28 July 2020 using the 700MHz band, after receiving 700MHz and 1400MHz spectrum in the auction earlier that month. By the end of August 2020, the operator claimed 85% national 5G coverage.
