At this year’s GITEX Technology Week in Dubai, communications infrastructure provider CommScope shared insights on how the company continues to redefine the market to meet the next wave of computing requirements. Telecom Review caught up with CommScope’s recently appointed VP of Sales, Service Providers, Middle East & Africa, Femi Oshiga, whose objective is to extend CommScope’s portfolio elements in all key markets in a sustainable manner.

Chinese telecom equipment provider and smartphone maker Huawei aims to take on Amazon and Alibaba as a global provider of public cloud services, the company said in April. Edward Zhou, Huawei's VP of Global Public Affairs, reiterated this to Telecom Review recently, saying Huawei can provide more trustworthy cloud services based on its legacy telecom experience.

Huawei has positioned itself as an IoT leader. The Chinese company has undertaken several initiatives that aim to accelerate IoT ecosystem development both regionally and globally. Speaking to Telecom Review ahead of GITEX 2017, Charles Yang, president, Huawei Middle East, disclosed some of the ways in which Huawei is driving long-term sustainability in the Middle East region through various initiatives aimed at enabling successful IoT strategy and business development.

Riverbed, an American IT company that develops products to improve application performance across wide area networks (WANs), recently commissioned a study surveying 1,000 IT decision makers globally to explore the impact legacy and next-generation networks have on cloud adoption and digital transformation. Telecom Review discussed the findings with Charbel Khniesser, Riverbed's Regional Presales Director for Middle East, Turkey and North Africa.

Saudi Arabia is going through rapid transformation, according to Deemah AlYahya, CEO of Saudi Arabia’s National Digitization Unit (NDU), a government arm mandated to accelerate efforts to achieve Saudi Vision 2030 objectives, an initiative to diversify the kingdom’s economy away from oil dependence. This transformation, Ms. AlYahya said, will require collaboration, open data sharing and injecting innovation into citizens.

5G is the next evolution in the mobile space. But realizing 5G cannot be achieved with the current centralized network architecture, according to Cherif Sleiman, VP of Europe, Middle East and Africa at IT automation and security firm Infoblox. Mobile network architecture must be altered, he said, by pushing services and intelligence security to the edge of the network rather than the core.
