Along the sidelines of the World Summit on the Information Society Forum (WSIS Forum 2023), the High-Level Policy Session 1 took place, tackling the topic of “Bridging Digital Divides.” Among the esteemed panelists was Dr. Bilel Jamoussi, chief, study groups department, standardization bureau, International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

During a keynote speech at the forum, H.E. Eng. Majed Sultan Al Mesmar, director general of the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) said that the challenges posed by the current situations are too great to deal with in silos. He explained that if the essence of the ICT sector is to build bridges of communication between people, then we should strengthen those bridges to understand the present and shape the future.

Until now, 5G has been launched in 50% of countries worldwide, and it is on course to serve two billion connections by 2025. As the next milestone of the 5G era, 5G-Advanced is the necessary bridge between 5G and 6G, supporting numerous IoT devices and services. With continuous evolution, 5G-Advanced will position itself as a solid foundation for wireless capabilities and thus allow 5G to expand into more diversified verticals.
