Abu Dhabi is hosting a two-day anti-cyber-terrorism conference this week starting from Monday, bringing local and international policymakers and experts from around the world together to share and discuss the best strategies to thwart cyber threats posed by terrorists.

The conference couldn’t have come at a more relevant time. Over the weekend, the "WannaCry" ransomware attack affected the world on a global scale hitting 99 countries, highlighting the vulnerabilities and threats posed by cyber criminals. The conference in Abu Dhabi includes presentations, seminars and workshops that will focus on developing methods to tackle cyber terrorism.

Dr. Ali Al Nuaimi, director general at Abu Dhabi Education Council and chairman of the conference, said at a media briefing ahead of the conference that international meetings such as this are important as the threat of cyber-terrorism is a global security concern.

"The anti-cyber-terrorism conference which is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nayan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, will bring together high ranking officials, decision markers, and experts from around the world," said Dr. Al Nuaimi. "We want to put forward a strategy and vision for all countries, not just the UAE, formulating new regulations for handling and combating electronic crimes committed by terrorists."

Dr. Al Nuaimi added that gathering the experts would bring the added benefits of having a variety of thoughts and opinions which would ensure that the outcomes of the conference are rounded and broad ranging. Dr. Al Nuaimi spoke highly of the UAE for hosting the international conference, and noted how the country is strongly committed to being a leader in counter-cyber-terrorism.
