Etihad Etisalat Company (Mobily), a leading technology, media, and telecommunications (TMT) company in Saudi Arabia, has invested USD 905 million (over SAR 3.4 billion) in data centers and submarine cables.

This strategic investment aims to enhance the Kingdom’s digital infrastructure and boost its digital economy, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030 goals.

Eng. Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Badran, CEO of Mobily, highlighted the significance of this investment in meeting the growing demand for advanced digital services and solutions. “Mobily has invested in several submarine cables that enhance Saudi Arabia’s connectivity with the world. These include the new Africa 1 cable, linking the Kingdom with Africa and Europe; and the South East Asia–Middle East–Western Europe 6 (SMW6) cable, a global super-highway connecting Saudi Arabia to Asia and Europe.”

Additionally, Mobily has upgraded the Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE1) submarine cable and expanded its fiber-optic network to deliver multiple pathways for international carriers, global cloud service providers, and submarine cable groups.

Data Center Expansions

In a significant effort to expand its data center portfolio, Mobily has invested over SAR 2 billion to develop facilities with a total capacity of 39 MW.

These data centers are expected to meet the increasing demand for artificial intelligence (AI), graphics processing units (GPUs), and other advanced applications.

These investments are critical to developing strong digital infrastructure to support public and private sectors in delivering digital services, implementing smart automation, and leveraging data analytics.

Mobily’s strategic investments are poised to advance sustainability while strengthening Saudi Arabia’s position as a regional and global leader in innovation and technology.
